......Dirty South.......

My husband and I travel to Jackson, Mississippi once a year............

Yeah, we're going to Jackson, ain't never coming back..............Thank you Johnny Cash :)

Ok, so we always come back, but the annual trip is once again upon us. It has become a sort of mini vacation for us. We spend time gambling, visiting friends we've made thru previous trips, looking at cattle (oh, did I mention this is a cattle based trip??). Anyhow  it has turned into a trip we both get excited about and start losing sleep over (you know, like a kid on Christmas eve).

The year before last we had a pit stop in Shreveport to gamble, I mean to sight see. Ok, so we stopped for  the casinos but hey we won a little so it turned out to be worth it. Although that money was later used to replace a window that was broken to retrieve an Ipod by someone it didn't belong to but hey we broke even, right? WRONG!!! Still no Ipod!!

So, with this years trip upon us (and no bad fortune on last years' trip) (knocking on wood now)....and a pit stop scheduled for Tunica, I start to ponder.......

1. Which casino is better for sight seeing (a.k.a. paying out)?????
2. Do any of them pay out in Ipod's?????

One last random thought: Jackson is the 1st place I've ever seen a baby strolller in the back of a truck, with an actual live baby in it......Driving down the road.......................wait.......it's the 1st and only place I've seen something like this....

Hoping to return to you soon with new, entertaining, money filled stories from the Dirty South!!!

To write or not to write................

After starting this blog, I started doing some research on the Do's and Don'ts of blogging. Let me just tell you, this was a tiring project as I read many contradicting articles, tips, advice, etc.

I found humor in one in particular that stated to not write about your boyfriend, cat, or kids. The humorous part was just a few lines down where it stated to write about your kids... HEEELLLOOOOOO, this is just a little confusing for a beginner.......do I, or don't I.....that began to be the question..............

Then I took a deep breath and started breaking down both bits of advice. I decided to start with the first bit of advice. And decided pretty quickly it was one I could handle because, well my boyfriend is my husband and as long as I refer to him as such then I'm technically writing about my husband. Whew.... got that one out of the way. BUT still I was a little concerned about the 'don't write about your kids' then 'write about your kids' part. So confusing, contradicting and well, wait a minute I don't have kids.  So naturally that one is taken care of. That is until we do have kids......Oh well, we'll save that confusing debate for later.

So I was left with the cat part. Now neither my husband or myself are cat people. Never have been and probably never will be. I have learned every once in a while though you will stumble upon a cat that you will fall in love with! As you've probably guessed by now, we do own a cat. Or rather, he may own us...........

He is a very large, orange, garfield cat. He answers to Pistol, Pistol Pete, here kitty kitty, and Hey Fat Cat. Oh, and any type of food you're willing to give him. Oh yes, he LOVES food....We both love this cat, for many different and crazy  reasons. So, I'm going to break the don't write about your cat advice and I'm going to let you meet and learn a little about my fat cat.

Although his story, likes, and dislikes will have to wait for another day as I hear him clawing the front door down now (yes, he truly does claw at the front door)... Must be supper time........So here's a sneak peek at my favorite feline........

I love you fat cat!!

p.s. I think I'll quit my research for now. I'm not sure it was helping much and it caused way too much thinking to take place.

Crazy Love........

A few days ago I wrote about how much I love peanut butter cups and how sadly I had ate the last two in our house...and how I was in dire need of more, to make it through this horribly cold weather.

Then a few days later I wrote about this particular movie that I had recently watched. Which has become a current favorite, and told everyone they needed to see it...........yes, you remember... "Julie and Julia"......

Well.....the other morning I on my way out the door for work I was surprised by this....................

<3 My very own supply of Peanut Butter cups, my new favorite movie "Julie and Julia" and a rolling pin...........which the movie reminded me that I did not currently own. <3

As you guessed it, my husband Love, Love, Loves me!!!!  He's so good to me!!!! It put a huge smile on my face and made this princess feel like a princess :)

**Strong Women**

We are getting ready to celebrate my Great Grandma's 93rd birthday! She is a truly amazing woman!!! 93- and still going strong. She's spirited, sassy, funny, independent and the sweetest woman ever (oh and loves to flirt with my husband) So, this is going out to tell this special woman HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

I feel so blessed, encouraged, thrilled and proud to say that I come from a family of very strong, sassy, spirited, independent women on both sides of my family! Each generation has helped shape the next generation. Whether they know it or not every woman has contributed her own part in some way.

I have:

Grandma's who are independent and love to share their life experiences. Hoping that each generation after them will take some of it with them as they move into a life that is so very different from what they knew as children, and young adults.

A momma who loves her children beyond this world, who has taught me so much in being independent, thinking for yourself, and doing what is right! She is an inspiration to all mothers, daughters, and friends everywhere!!

A sister who is my motivation, inspiration and a workaholic! Oh and did I mention is full of spirit, energy, and a big dose of attitude BUT I wouldn't trade her for anything in this world!

Cousins who show me every day what it is to live life to it's fullest! Not to take anything for granted and that you can get through anything.

Aunts who are crazy, fun, would do anything for me and are great listeners. I think they sometimes keep the rest of us in line!

Friends who might as well be family! They are there when I need them to laugh with me, cry with me, give a hug when needed, or buy me a beer.

I am surrounded my all types of amazing women in my life! So to each of you amazing, independent, strong, sassy, spririted women I know, Thank you!! Know you mean something to me and many other women around you!!

 I love you all!! <3

Chick Flicks

I'm the kinda gal that likes a variety of different types of movies, all depending on my mood...which could be anything on any given day. Here lately I've tried to watch all my chick flick picks while the hubby is gone. I don't like to torture him with these too often. Although he was a sweetheart and brought home "Eat, Pray, Love" which I had been constantly commenting on wanting to see. Now own it, have watched it........no more comments on that one.....

BUT if you are looking for a chick flick that will - keep you interested, keep you wondering how it ends, will inspire you, make you laugh, make you cry..................Then go out and buy yourself a copy of "Julie and Julia". I have a horrible habit of only making it through the 1st half of a movie anymore. Our couch seems to just suck me in and I'm a goner within an hour. This one though I can proudly say I made it through to the end and now want to own the movie AND read the book!

It is without a doubt, positively, absolutely a chick flick (although my husband was nice enough to watch it with me). I'm hoping the girls will want to watch it at our upcoming slumber party!! Then I would have even more reason to go out and buy myself a copy.

On a more serious note, this truly is a great movie. There is something in this movie for every woman to relate to, to be motivated by, and to be inspired by. If you've got some 'me' time coming up and want something that will make you laugh, cry, feel blessed, love life, and inspire you I highly recommend this movie!!

All about YOU!

I'm a big fan of Pioneer Woman. For those of you who don't know who she is, leave this blog immediately and go to www.thepioneerwoman.com and meet Ree Drummond a.k.a. Pioneer Woman. Although she has absolutely no idea who I am, she has been an inspiration to me in starting this blog, learning to cook, and picking up my new camera. Yes, I have learned that much from her blog and there's so much more there to learn and be inspired by.

In the early days of stalking her blog I found a post she had written about things she's learned about blogging. Of course, I was interested. The blogging concept was still new to me (and still kinda is)....... One of the main points that stuck out to me was to tell your readers that you 'love them'....regularly.........or in other words THANKS!!! So, today this post is all about YOU!!!!!

I love ya and thank you for stopping by. For whatever it is you may get from my jibberish (and sometimes nonsense) I thank you from the bottom of my heart for stopping by. And, I promise to continue to fill this blog with plenty more jibberish for you to decipher and take from it what you want. Until then.......remember I love ya (especially you Momma), and thanks for reading <3

P.s. I'm still out of peanut butter cups...............

Friday, January 21, 2011

oh....peanut butter and chocolate.................

Have I told you that I love peanut butter cups?? Well, I love peanut butter cups.

I bought some recently for my husband, who also loves peanut butter cups..................

I have to confess now....I just ate the last 2 (but I promise I didn't ruin my appetite for dinner).......

Could someone please bring me some more???

I may need more to get myself through this horrible cold weather we're having.

Cattlemen's Women

This post is going out to all you women who love a man who loves cattle! I mean that in a purely professional sense! :)

I"m writing this as the busy part of the year for the beef industry/associations kicks into full swing.  For those of you familiar with the association in your state (of which I am very familiar), your spouse and/or you are busy with county meetings, membership drives, conferences, conventions, etc. All this can sure make life chaotic!!! BUT I know that I'm thankful and truly blessed to be country!!! Oh yes, "I was country, when country wasn't cool"....Wth all this you learn to embrace the chaos and know life couldn't be any better (maybe less chaotic, but who would know what to do without the chaos???)

Okkkkkaaayyy, back to my point..... with this busy time for the beef industry I actually seem to get a little more 'me' time.. Took me a while to see it as 'me' time and to enjoy some of it. (don't get me wrong, there isn't always a lot of free time, but I take what I can get). So with that being said, I've compiled a list of things I've done or am trying to do in my 'me' time....and a few things to keep my wonderful, loving husbands' mind off of his work (no shop talk, no shop talk) (I'll explain that little mantra later) when we get a little 'us' time!!!

Here goes nothin....(p.s. read the list even if you or your spouse have nothing to do with cattle!! You may find something in it useful!)

1. Form friendships with other cattlemen's women ("cattlemen's women"-such a pigheaded, sexist statement, but HEY it got your attention...)

2. Find a hobby (even if it changes frequently)

3. Join a gym

4. Get a library card (and use it from time to time)

5. Like whiskey (I know some of you already have this one conquered)-as this seems to be cattlemen's drink of choice

6. Make girls nights a must (need to have at least one adult beverage, see #5 above)

7. Take a "you" night (put on your sweatpants, sit in front of the TV and do nothing but veg- also why #3 needs to be implemented)

8. Learn to cook a good steak (he'll be impressed, and yes, i'm still working on this one)

9. Throw a party for your friends (and no shop talk, a.k.a. work talk, cattle talk, etc. allowed)

10. Have date nights

11. Do stupid, fun, kid stuff on your date night (bowling, arcades, etc)

12. Take a zumba class (I LOVE mine)(or pilates, yoga, kickboxing)

13. Engage yourself in some events your spouse is active in

14. Shop, shop and shop some more!!! (I'm not a big shopper myself but my husband would say other wise some days)
and last but not least

Remember: You are his refuge away from his work, no matter what it might be!!

As for me, I am well on my way through this list. Let me know if you have something to add to it!!

I have a girls day/slumber party (yes I said slumber party) idea forming in this 'ole noggin' for those of us gals in this area who won't be traveling to Denver at the end of the month. I"m thinking cooking, vegging, sweatpants, food, movies, did I mention food yet?

......ME.......

Ok, I've been a little under the weather (due to the strange weather we've been having) the past few days. Sinus infection means I'm finding it very hard to really even concentrate let alone write something that any one else can comprehend.

I started a little list of: things I've learned, things I like, random facts about me, etc. before I started this blog so with my inability to concentrate I thought it'd be a good time to share a portion of this with you just for giggles.............but just a portion.....because who knows when the inability to concentrate will hit me again :)

Drum roll please............................................................

Anyone's life truly lived consists of work, sunshine, exercise, soap, plenty of fresh air and a happy contented spirit. ~Lillie Langtry

Ok gals (and guys), I'm not one for New Years' Resolutions. Seems to me like every has the same one and they all end up with the same results. The resolutions always seem to have come and gone by the 2nd week of the year.

But, I thought why not this year? Let's go for it! Let's make a resolution this year! I made a quick decision days before the New Year, my 2011 Resolution would be to take one  Zumba class this year. Easy, you say! And it was, there is a class twice a week just miles from our house. AND I'd been wanting to try it for months. BUT the catch was, I couldn't get anyone to go with me. This being the reason I hadn't been to one yet. Everyone had work schedules and kids to contend with or just simply lived too far away.

So the 1st wednesday of 2011 I put on my Big Girl Panties and off I went to my 1st Zumba class all by myself. Not only did I not die, or melt, or become totally humiliated by being there by myself BUT I had fun!! So much fun that I am now a member of the class and even purchased my very own punch card and hand weights for the class. Now to just pray that I don't injure myself while trying to learn these crazy dance moves while using hand weights.

I can now officially say that I have experienced my 1st zumba class and carried out my 2011 resolution. Which I can also say did put me in the class of "the resolutions always seem to have come and gone by the 2nd week of the year."  :)

I highly recommend joing a zumba class! I absolutely love mine!!! It's been a great way to work out, get back in shape and meet new friends!!!!

Movement is a medicine for creating change in a person's physical, emotional and mental state. ~Carol Welch

Inspiration~

Defined by Webster as: Divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation; the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions; the act of influencing or suggesting opinions.

I strongly believe that inspirations can come from anywhere and at any point in one’s life. My point is: inspiration changes as one grows. My inspirations as a child, teenager, adolescent, and as I entered adulthood were completely different than they are now. As a newly married, completely in love with my husband, adult my inspirations seem to consume my heart, body and soul.

These inspirations come in all forms, such as a: song, new movie, old movie, picture,  conversation with a friend, book, magazine article just about anything you could come into contact with.

Now my question to YOU is……Do you see the inspiration when it’s there? And if you do, what do you do with it?

Do you start a new hobby? Do you take that class you’ve been wanting to take? Do you apply for that new job? Do you make a new friend? Do you try something you've always wanted to?

I believe inspiration is there to subtly remind us to not be complacent in our lives. It's so easy to just continue doing what you're doing, to not ever try anything new. But, what's wrong with trying? What's wrong with new?

Put on your big girl panties and step out of your comfort zone! Just so you don’t think I’m blowing smoke and talking jibberish, I recently tried on my big girl panties and guess what!!?? I couldn’t be happier that I did….BUT that’s for a different day J

I’m issuing a challenge to each of you now. See the inspiration that comes with each new day, with every song that you hear, with everything you read, with every movie you watch, with every conversation that you hear….…….now take hold of it and DO something with it! You just might surprise yourself!!

Oh what to wear, what to wear........

Ooohhhh....la...la...my husband and I were given the privilege of attending he Governors Inaugural Ball last nite (also the reason all you got was a quote last nite). l'll admit to you now, not real savvy on the political correctness of the political world yet but I'm learnin'!!

So we had the typical guy-girl conversation about the event which of course was basically....... me fretting over just what exactly I was to wear to an event of such. Back and forth we went on what was appropriate, not appropriate, formal, not formal, guys wear, ladies wear, etc.

Oh, and did I mention this was all short notice to us both AND we had 6 inches of snow on the ground?!?!?

It was finally settled...... 2 1/2 hrs before the event. Slacks and black sweater it was....and did I mention we were going to the Goverors Inaugural ball? In my mind, thinking ball-formal, slacks-not formal....but away I went anyway.....

So, as not to leave you in wonderment yes I was underdressed......BUT had I known my wedding dress would be appropriate there would have been no guy-girl discussion, fretting over what to wear AND there would have been 2 wedding dresses for those attending the Inaugural Ball to gawk at.

I'm left wondering........
     underdressed or wedding dress? ;)

.............CrAyOnS

Such an awesome invention! I mean, who doesn't like to color?!?! Crayons, markers, colored pencils, side-walk chalk it's all fun. And such a creative way to express yourself.

I found a quote the other day (I love looking up quotes!):
~If you want an interesting party sometime, combine cocktails and a fresh box of crayons for everyone.  ~Robert Fulghum

This sent me thinking........................... (yes husband, i was thinking)...............and I came up with two questions.

#1- When was the last time I colored? Most everyone would answer "with the kids". Well,I don't have kids but I do know plenty of them so this could be my answer BUT the most truthful answer I could think of was Christmas about 3 years ago. Now, I don't say "Christmas" like I sat around with my cousins kids coloring. I mean, my Dad informed me in order to get Christmas from him I (my siblings were included too) had to write Santa a letter. Okay so now your thinking, I asked for crayons.

WRONG....although I should have the previous Christmas or my birthday or somewhere along my journey into adulthood but it's simpler than that. He told me the letter had to be written in crayon. NOT colored pencil or markers (I already owned both) but crayon.

So.................................now I am an adult woman, with no kids, no coloring books but by golly I do have my very own set of 8 crayons!

#2- Girls, when are we having our next party? I've already got the crayons!!!!!!!

but.......I'm out of cocktails :)

***Note to self (and you that are reading)- This chick loves hosting parties!!!!

*Snowday*

Snowflakes are kisses from heaven.  ~Author Unknown

We've had our 1st official snowday of 2011 here in the South! What a wonderful way to spend a Monday. It has been a completely lazy and wonderful day around our house.  My wonderful hubby volunteered to take me out to capture some of this amazing whiteness that has blanketed our world.

This is just a glimpse of the beauty that God graced us with the past day or so. Although I dislike cold weather, the beauty of snow can be so mesmerizing. It seemed like everything around us enjoyed the change in our weather and surroundings.

Our puppies (as I like to call our year and half old Aussies) couldn’t enjoy the snow more! They absolutely love playing in it!!

I couldn’t feel any more blessed after spending a long weekend and snowday with my husband, all our critters and getting to put my new camera to use ;) .
Just as my husband went out to finish evening chores I found the perfect quote for the day. Sooooo.........being the wife that I am and knowing how much he loves me I asked him for one small last favor for the day…......................................

When it snows, you have two choices:  shovel or make snow angels.  ~Author Unknown

Life.......................................

Faith………always in my heart, although there have been times I forgot where I put it. But now in the middle of what I like to refer to as my “Fairy Tale” I have once again found this most important part of my life, spirit and self. Centering this back into my heart opened up so much in my life and has allowed my heart to over pour with emotional feelings and LOVE.

Love……..where my heart now lies. I have found that place in my life where I have learned to love myself. With this love comes a feeling of peace, tranquility and calmness in my life. Now, these feelings aren’t always apparent but they are there, although sometimes overlooked by stress, anger, and impatience. BUT love is what I do. I love everything, even CATTLE.

Cattle…….my husband’s other love. Now, I say that with total and utter respect and love for the man that I love. It is a widely known fact that the man I love has a unique love and passion for the cattle industry. I tried to deny that this love and passion were so abundant but found that it’s easier to embrace it and love it than it is to fight it. So with this new enlightenment in my life I am now a 100% happy, peaceful, in love, full of faith, Southern Cattlewoman Princess.
